Our Story

Peninsula Homecare Cooperative (PHC) opened for business on February 8th, 2016. Our co-op was founded by a group of experienced caregivers who held that coalescing our resources and experience into a licensed home care agency was the best way to provide consistent and exceptional care to our community.   PHC was warmly welcomed in Jefferson County and we grew quickly and profitably in our first year. We were the first worker-owned home care agency on the Olympic Peninsula and the seventh in the country.

For us caregiving is easy… after all it is our chosen and passionate career.  But we are more than a caregiving agency… we are a worker-owned cooperative where the principles of a democratic workplace must be understood and practiced daily.  As our business grows so does our understanding of what it means to balance the rights and responsibilities of worker ownership.

Today PHC is owned and operated by a steadfast and devoted group of caregivers who fully own that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.  Every day we show up with full hearts and minds to care for our clients while caring and supporting each other.  Our collective success is directly tied to the best effort of every individual caregiver.  When we are working alone in the homes of our clients, we have the support of our cooperative behind us.  This is the cooperative advantage that creates a win-win situation for our members and clients alike!

“Creating Quality Jobs for Older Female Home Care Workers”, is a short film highlighting Peninsula Homecare Cooperative. It was created as a collaborative effort between the AARP Foundation, Capital Impact Partners, and the Cooperative Development Foundation.
